Bulgarian University Ranking System

The Bulgarian University Ranking System compares academic programs in Bulgaria-accredited higher-education institutions. The system is the first of its kind in Bulgaria and meets the need for systematic ranking of universities and educational institutions. It ranks programs based on more than 50 indicators, such as teaching and learning conditions, scientific research, career development opportunities, prestige, and material resources.

The ranking methodology and indicators definition are based on extensive research and analysis in the area of higher education. Numerous surveys and statistical studies involving over 10,000 students, university lecturers and other stakeholders have been conducted. The ranking system provides:

• Structured overview of all universities in Bulgaria
• Ability to create a subset of Universities through different filters
• Standardized rankings - ready-made rankings in each professional field, which include prior selected indicators. The weights have been selected by experts upon assessing international experience, the context of the Bulgarian higher education, and the limitations stemming from data availability and quality. Users can see and study standardized rankings, but cannot change them.
• Custom rankings -  each user, can choose a professional field and generate a combination of the 51 available indicators using user-selected weights. Users can rank universities either by one indicator only, or by all 51 indicators, or based upon their own combination of indicators depending on users’ specific priorities and interests.
• Export of data from the system to the existing systems in the Ministry of Education
• Administrative tools to fill specific data for each university (general information filed, documents and links to universities)
• Administrative tools for indicators management
• Data storage, update and backup
• Library with various documents and links (law regulations, ranking methodology, international practices, etc.)
• User access control

The Bulgarian University Ranking System will assisst prospective students to make informed choices about their education, will help uniersities to become more competible and will allow government to use data for any other informational and analytical purposes for overall improvement of the Bulgarian higher education.
